buchanan matriarchal heritage project
the buchanan matriarchal heritage project is an ongoing effort to preserve photographs, stories and memories of our maternal family line. the project celebrates the women whose lives, work and experiences have shaped families across generations.
through family photographs, letters, oral histories and personal stories, this project brings together pieces of our shared history that are at risk of being lost. by preserving these materials digitally and making them accessible to future generations, we can better understand where we come from, what we have inherited and the stories that connect us.
this archive is part of you look like bette davis, an interdisciplinary art project by jess petrylak that explores femininity, family history, working class culture and the way women pass down knowledge, traditions and experiences. at its heart, this initiative is about honoring the people who came before us, and ensuring their stories have a place in our future.
